We will do everything we can to preserve your natural teeth. However, some teeth get to a point where they become non-restorable. Excessive decay, fractures, and periodontal disease or premature bone loss as some of the reasons tooth removal may be needed. When these types of conditions exist, tooth extraction will be recommended.
After the working area has been anesthetized, the dentist will use special instruments to remove the affected tooth. When a baby tooth is removed, usually the biting of gauze for twenty minutes on the extraction site is all that is needed. When a permanent tooth is removed, there may be additional procedures performed such as synthetic bone augmentation or implant placement. Instructions and sometimes medications will be given to aid in healing, depending on the procedure.
